Any United States Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Marine, or Coast Guardsmen who is wrongfully accused or convicted of a crime in combat ("War Crime") or has a case which involves unlawful command influence, may apply for "Warrior Fund" sponsorship. A Warrior's civilian legal counsel may also apply for "Warrior Fund" sponsorship on his/her behalf.
To apply for "Warrior Fund" sponsorship, a Warrior, or his/her civilian legal counsel, must complete, and submit to UAP's CEO, a detailed application form - "UAP’s Application for Warrior Fund Sponsorship."

UAP’s CEO will review the application. If complete and appropriate, UAP's CEO will submit it to UAP's Board for review. UAP's Board will then vote on whether to support the Warrior based upon the merits of the case and whether the case falls within the guidelines specified in UAP's mission statement - Specifically, the case must involve crimes in combat ("War Crimes") or unlawful command influence.
NOTE: UAP denies many applicants sponsorship because their case does involve crimes in combat ("War Crimes") or unlawful command influence.
If accepted for sponsorship, the Warrior will have the best legal defense team (attorneys, investigators, experts, graphic artists, and consultants) funded by UAP to protect his/her Rights, and defend against a wrongful accusation or conviction of a "War Crime."
a. TO PRESERVE RIGHTS
UAP ensures the Warrior has a team in place to protect their Constitutional Rights when in contact with military justice authorities. This includes addressing any unlawful command influence pursuant to, and/or during, any military tribunal; violations of any military member’s right to a fair and honest investigation, trial and/or administrative separation; and subsequent efforts to update military records.
b. TO DEFEND AGAINST WRONGFUL ACCUSATIONS & CONVICTIONS
UAP ensures the Warrior receives the best legal representation during investigations, pretrial hearings, courts-martial, separation boards, clemency boards, appeals, habeas corpus, executive commutation, clemency, and, if applicable, Presidential Pardons.
Yes. UAP will provide funding for functional support to assist with a Warrior's reintegration. This may include: training, education, counseling, health care, and legal support; upgrades of military records; access to veterans’ benefits; and, if unjustly imprisoned, visitation from loved ones and stipends to help with family needs, books, stamps, magazines, etc...
No. UAP has no attorneys on staff. Attorneys who represent Warrior Fund sponsorship recipients are NOT UAP employees. They have their own law firms which present UAP monthly reports providing a case status, a detailed description of legal and professional services performed, and associated expenses for UAP's CEO to review and UAP's Board to approve for payment and reimbursement.
No. Attorney selection is done by the Warrior and his/her family prior to requesting "Warrior Fund" sponsorship. UAP is NOT involved with the due diligence and selection process associated with identifying the Warrior's attorney.
This affords the Warrior and his/her family the liberty and the opportunity to consider all law firms, whether affiliated with UAP or not. As such, there is no conflict of interest or preferential treatment extended by UAP or the attorneys who serve on UAP’s Board.
Should a Warrior and his/her family desire the names and contact information for attorneys who have represented other Warrior Fund recipients, you are welcome to request that information via Support@UAP.org.
NOTE: The fact that an attorney represented a "Warrior Fund" sponsorship recipient in the past does not guarantee a Warrior represented by that same attorney will necessarily receive "Warrior Fund" sponsorship.
If a Warrior happens to select an attorney who is on UAP’s Board to represent him or her, that attorney must recuse himself/herself from voting when UAP's Board votes whether to provide "Warrior Fund" sponsorship to that Warrior.
As mentioned above, UAP's Board votes on whether to support each Warrior based upon the merits of the case and whether the case falls within the guidelines specified in UAP's mission statement - Specifically, the case must involve crimes in combat ("War Crimes") or unlawful command influence.
Attorneys who have been selected to represent "Warrior Fund" recipients in the past and have proven themselves as highly reputable, through a pattern of honorable, professional, and successful representation of our Nation's Warriors, are occasionally invited to serve on UAP's Board.
Such attorneys provide valuable insight, knowledge, and experience to the Board based upon their intimate knowledge or the military justice system, cases involving crimes in combat ("War Crimes"), and unlawful command influence.
No attorney invited to serve on UAP’s Board, is permitted to vote on matters regarding Warriors they represent or payment & reimbursement of his/her fees & expenses.
Forecasting attorneys’ compensation for these cases is difficult and vary significantly depending upon the case and what must be accomplished. They can range from a few thousand to hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Moreover, there are times of intense activity followed by long periods of relative inactivity. Accordingly, invoices for legal and professional services are higher upon filing deadlines and litigation and all but nonexistent during periods of inactivity. This presents a challenge for long-range forecasting with precision the amount an appeal will cost and when the funds will be required.
Fortunately, attorneys who represent the recipients of Warrior funding submit requests for payment of services rendered and expenses which are deeply discounted.
They significantly discount the hourly rate they could otherwise earn handling other clients, especially considering their vast knowledge and experience. Moreover, they tend to “write-off,” as goodwill, tens of thousands of dollars in legal and professional services over the course of their handling our Warrior's cases.
